Chief Utz’s Twenty-fifth Anniversary Chief Otto F. Utz of the fire department of Niagara Falls, N. Y., on May 1 celebrated the twenty-fifth anniversary of his appointment as chief of the fire department of that city, he having been elected on May 1, 1896 A diamond – set gold badge was presented to Chief Utz by the members of the fire department on the occasion of the inspection of the department by Mayor Maxwell M. Thompson, members of the city council and City Flngineer Edward J. Fort on the Schoellkopf Bridge over the hydraulic canal in Niagara. The presentation was a complete surprise to Chief Utz, the members of the department having carefully guarded their secret until the presentation, and he was very much affected, finding considerable difficulty in replying to the speech of Mayor Thompson, who presented the badge on behalf of the members of the department.
