CATS TRAINED TO UPSET LAMPS AND CAUSE FIRES How cats are taught to upset lamps and set fire to buildings was told recently by C. D. West, hanager of the investigation and prosecution department of the National Association of Credit Men, in explaining schemes used by storekeepers to collect insurance. He declared that the scheme was used for several years before his department saw anything significant in the fact that a great number of fires occurred in which a cat was always either rescued or was killed; at any rate there was always a cat around. Mr. West and his agents became convinced that the cats had something to do with the fires, but for some time they were unable to establish the connection.
