J. W. Ackerman Watertown City Manager J. Walter Ackerman who since June, 1920, has been superintendent of the water, light and power department of Watertown, N. Y., on January 1 assumed the duties of city manager of that municipality, a position to which he has been appointed by the city council. Mr. Ackerman was born in Auburn, N. Y., but left that city at the age of one year to return many years later as its engineer. He was educated as an engineer, receiving his instruction first at the Ithaca high school and subsequently at Cazenovia seminary and Cornell University. After completing his engineering course he engaged in municipal work, designing and directing the construction of water and sewage systems and also engaging in surveying and like engineering enterprises.
