New Tractor for Springfield, Mo. As a means of making the Springfield, Mo., fire department more efficient and to prevent damage and deterioration to part of the equipment now heavily in use, the city commissioners have contracted for the purchase of a Mack five-ton tractor, which will be used in hauling the large steamers from Station No. 1 to fires. In the past the steamers have been hauled to the fires by the hose wagons but this practice has been tearing up the hose wagons and causing much expense and loss on them. Through the new method the hose wagons will be relieved of this heavy load. The tractor will be shipped from Kansas City in thirty days.
