Chief Kenlon Returns Chief John Kenlon, of New York, and Mrs. Kenlon arrived from Europe on the Berengaria on August 4. The head of the New York fire department and his wife were a great deal affected by the cordial welcome extended to them by the fire department officials and about 100 friends who met the big liner down the lower bay on the fireboat John Purroy Mitchell. There were tears in the eyes of both when the welcoming party cheered the chief when he appeared at the rail of the Berengaria. Chief Kenlon has been abroad since April, studying the methods of the various European fire departments, and also looking into the matter of garbage disposal adopted in those countries. In Ireland, he and his wife were passed through the rebel lines at Limerick, when they displayed an American flag while travelling in an automobile. The chief and Mrs.…
