New Chief of Hamilton, Ont. The new chief of the fire department of Hamilton, Ont., Can., is Wallace T. James, who was appointed on January 1, of this year to succeed Chief A. B. Ten Eyck, who retired the latter part of the year after 43 years’ service. Chief James was assistant to Chief Ten Eyck when he was appointed. He was born in Hamilton and received the greater part of his education in his native city. He Joined the department May 1. 1882, when the paid fire department was a newly organized body. Chief A. W. Aitchison promoted Mr. James to the rank of captain on November 1, 1886. His next promotion came on the death of Thomas Wilson, first assistant chief and he was then elevated to the post of second assistant chief, the date being June 1, 1897.
