Williamson, W. Va., Fire Chief Dies Chief Allen Waddle, of the fire department of Williamson, W. Va., died May 22 from injuries received while answering an alarm of fire sent from East Williamson on May 18. Chief Waddle traveling at high speed in his small touring car following the fire apparatus of Williamson lost control of his machine while attempting to pass another car and it plunged over an embankment to the railroad tracks below, a distance of approximately 200 feet. The chief was picked up by a crew of trainmen and rushed to a local hospital, but his injuries which consisted of a fractured skull and a compound fracture of the ankle, caused his death. Chief Waddle was born at Covington, Ky., in 1887 and was elected chief of the fire department of Williamson in 1920, serving nearly four years. The funeral was held on May 24.
