Fire Department at New York Jubilee The evening of Friday, June 22, was Firemen’s Night at the Silver Jubilee celebration of Greater New York, and a program of considerable interest was given at the Grand Central Palace. This included the award of medals by Mayor Hylan to firemen who had saved lives during the year in the course of their duties. A musical program was given by the fire department band, which lived up to its reputation and rendered instrumental numbers with its usual excellence. The program in the Palace was followed by an outside exhibition in which the members of the department went through drills and evolutions, including scaling ladders, on rope and other feats such as jumping into nets from high altitudes. This exhibition was given on a specially constructed 55-foot drill tower.
