Chief Authorized to Provide Comforts for Men After considerable friction Fire Chief E. B. Osborne, of Turlock, Cat., was authorized by the city board of trustees, on November 22, to purchase a stove for the fire house, the necessary wood, blankets for the men and other articles required for their comfort. This action was the outcome of a controversy between the board and the fire department as to who should pay for these necessaries. The city has some seven or eight thousand population, and the fire department, which is entirely volunteer, consists of thirty men. According to Pumping Engineer J. E. Farris, the department has not had a total fire loss since May 4, 1917. The department is equipped with an American-LaFrance pumper.
