Former Brooklyn Deputy Chief Dead

Former Brooklyn Deputy Chief Dead Ex-Deputy Chief Platt Van Cott of the old Brooklyn, N. Y., fire department, died at his home in that city on January 21 at the age of 81 years of complication of diseases, owing to old age. Chief Van Cott joined the Brooklyn fire department when it was organized by the city in 1869 and served as fireman, captain and finally deputy chief, retiring before the city was merged into the Greater New York. He was a veteran of the Civil War.
