When a High Pressure Fire Hydrant Breaks Los Angeles, Cal., enjoyed a miniature geyser recently, when the driver of a heavy motor truck on Broadway of that city miscalculated his distances and backed into a high pressure fire hydrant, snapping it off and releasing the flow. The illustration shows the water spouting front the hydrant and gives an excellent idea of the force from the high pressure mains. Oregon Fire Losses—The report of William Moore, slate fire marshal of Oregon, shows a loss for December for the state of 142,750. The most disastrous fire of the month was the destruction of the theater in Medford, with a loss of $60,000. There were 31 fires during the month of which one was classified as incendiary.
