Gastonia Awards Alarm System Contract Bids were opened on February 26, by the city of Gastonia, N. C., according to information received from C. E. Rhyne, water works superintendent, for a fire alarm and the contract was awarded for a Gamewell six circuit system including storage battery switchboard and repeater together with generator and necessary battery at fire headquarters. There ought to be 60 porcelain steel alarm boxes, each with quick action door. Provision has been made to care for the growth of the city, as one hundred and fifty boxes may be installed without increasing the central station equipment. Bids were also opened on all wire and pole line and a contract was awarded for this material to the Western Electric Company.
