Ex-Chief Connery. New Castle, Pa., Dead Ex-Chief F. J. Connery, former head of the fire department of New Castle, Pa., who retired on December 31, 1923. passed away at Mercy Hospital, Pittsburgh. Pa., on March 16. The chief’s death was due to a complication of diseases and he had been taken to the hospital on March 12 in a serious condition. Chief Connery was born in New York City on August 31, 1853 and was in his 71st year at the time of his death. He moved with his parents to New Castle in 1860 and in 1873 became a member of the old volunteer tire company known as the Neshannock. He became a member of the paid fire department in 1876. the personnel at that time consisting of only three men. When the then Fire Chief James H.
