Boston Drill School Starts

Boston Drill School Starts Fire department work began in earnest on March 10 for the new firemen who were appointed to the Boston, Mass., department with the installation of the two-platoon system on February 1. In other words the drill school sessions started under direction of Capt. Daniel F. Baker, drill master, in the yard adjacent to the headquarters building on Bristol Street. Three classes are being held daily except Sunday, the first at 8:30 A. M., the second at 10:30 A. M., and the third at 1 P. M. Each group will practice with ladders, hose and other appliances for a period of 30 days. The recruits started out with vigor, and following a preliminary talk and explanation of firefighting tools they were put through a stiff course in ladder raising.
