Pump Information from Characteristic Curves

Issue 4 and Volume 76.

Pump Information from Characteristic Curves The use of characteristic curves in illustrating the performance of pumping engines and as showing the relation between the quantity delivered, the horse power consumed and the speed attained, is described by Major F. Johnstone-Taylor, who is an English consulting engineer, in this week’s issue. He goes into the matter quite exhaustively and backs up his arguments with illustrations showing characteristic curves of various operations of different types of pumps. The subject is one that is not only important, but also contains much of interest, and it would be instructive to hear from American superintendents and engineers who have used this method to advantage.
