ACTIVITIES OF THE DINGVILLE FIRE DEPARTMENT Courtesy American-LaFrance Fire Engine Company IT has been a habit with some of the members of the Dingville fire department of dropping out of line to shake hands with friends and borrow a “chaw of tobacker” while en route to fires. This plan was frustrated by calling the roll directly on the premises before releasing them for action. Raising his trumpet, the first assistant chief spoke thus: “Now, men! It appears to me that you ain’t all present, so before we proceed to harness this conflagration, the secretary will call the roll and all of you what be n’t present are hereby subjick to fines, according to the by-laws of the Dingville fire department, and not a man will leave the ranks until them fines is paid.”
