Forest Fire-Fighting in Colorado Unusually dry weather conditions has increased enormously the fire hazard in western forests. The number of fires in Colorado has been exceptionally high this summer but all have been brought under control without serious loss although any loss is serious enough. The two worst fires threatened the town of Conifer and the construction camp at the west portal of the Moffat Tunnel thru the Continental Divide. The city of Denver has forbidden the lighting of camp fires in the Denver Mountain Parks except in the stone fire places distributed throughout the area. Counties, cities and the U. S. Forestry Service have taken similar action throughout the west in a stern effort to lessen the danger. Residents of summer resorts west of Denver have organized fire patrols and fire fighting companies so that aid will be immediately available when fire is discovered. They also have purchased a…
