New Second Assistant Chief of Mobile The newly appointed second assistant chief of the Mobile, Ala., fire department, whose portrait is shown herewith, is former Captain Edward Connolly. Chief Connolly has been a fire fighter most of his life, as he entered the service of the department in 1901 as a supernumerary and a short time after was appointed to the regular roll and assigned to Hose Company No. 7. Later, in appreciation of his valuable service to the department, he was appointed captain of Hose Company No. 8, remaining in that capacity for several years. During the YY’orld War a vacancy occurred at headquarters and Captain Connolly was transferred to the command of aerial truck No. 4. A few weeks after this appointment Captain Emile Medicus, captain of the Underwriters’ Salvage Corps, resigned to enter the shipyards and Captain Connolly was appointed in his place by the Underwriters.
