Evansville Helps Sufferers from Drought The water department of Evansville, Ind., his gone to the rescue of the surrounding towns which have been hard hit by drought which has prevailed in that section of the state, according to information received from Charles Steithoff, general superintendent. Trainloads of water in large tank cars are being hauled to the stricken districts daily. On January 1 the district was short 11.32 inches of rainfall. While the normal rainfall for January is 3.5 inches, up to the time that the information was received front Mr. Streithoff there had only been a fall of three-quarters of an inch. This season’s drought is the worst in twenty years. In referring to the matter, Mr. Streithoff said: “170,000 gallons of water a day is being taken to Mt. Vernon, I11.
