CHIEF CODY TO RETIRE IN 1926 AFTER FIFTY YEARS SERVICE Veteran Head of Atlanta, Ga.. Fire Department Plans to Resign at End of Next Year — All Want Him to Stay CHIEF WILLIAM B. CODY, a fire-fighter of national reputation and for over 47 years a member of the Atlanta. Ga., fire department, ten of which he has been at its head, has officially declared his intention of retiring from office at the end of 1926, when he will have completed his half-century of service. This notice he served on Mayor Walter A. Sims and the fire department officials of Atlanta, on January 29. Great regret at this decision of the chief was expressed by the mayor and city officials, who were unanimous in the hope that he would be persuaded to reconsider his decision before the time arrived for him to lay down his office.
