IS ENGINEER OF STEAMER DOOMED IN NEW YORK FIRE DEPT.? Question Referred to Fire Commissioner Drennan—None Appointed Since 1921—Committee of Eligible Firemen to Have Rank Continued IS the position of Engineer of Steamer in the New York fire department doomed, or is it to be sustained with renewed “life” before the present eligible list expires in August? This is a question now confronting the officials of the New York fire department and the members of the Board of Estimate and Apportionment of the city of New York. The latter functionaries have referred the question to Fire Commissioner Drennan for recommendation. To date he has made none. A committee of firemen on tbs eligible list for promotion to the post of engineer have raised the question in the councils of the Uniformed Firemen’s Association, asking, by motion, for the endorsement of the U.
