Battalion Chief Barrett of N. Y. F. D., Dead Battalion Chief Thomas Barrett, commander of the eighteenth battalion of the New York, N. Y., fire department located in the Borough of the Bronx, died following an operation for mastoiditis in the Union Hospital on June 10. He was sixtyseven years and served forty-two years in the fire department. Chief Barrett was cited on the merit roll four times and served with distinction in some of the most active battalions. He came from Dover, N. Y., in 1883, to join the fire department and six years later was promoted to lieutenant. He was made a captain in 1883 and a battalion chief in 1903. Chief Barrett served longer in the department than any other of the present battalion chiefs. He is survived by his widow and three sons.
