N. Y. Firemen Defeat Detroit in Ball Game The baseball team of the Detroit fire department left New York last week for home with a firm determination to “trim” the New Yorkers on August 15 and 16 in Detroit, when the smoke eaters of New York will journey to the Automobile City to play two games for the benefit of the Detroit Fire Fund Association. The reason for this determination lies in the fact that the New York “blaze beaters” extinguished the Detroiters on July 8 at the Yankee Stadium in New York, where a benefit game netted the neat sum of $ 150,000 to the New York Firemen’s Honor Emergency Fund. The Detroiters were defeated 8-4, but even in defeat they were heroes for they played well, they manifested good sportsmanship and as the Mayor of their own city, John W.
