Three New Battalion Chiefs for New York The promotion of three captains in the New York city fire department to the ranks of battalion chiefs was made public before Fire Commissioner Thomas J. Drennan left for Detroit to witness the baseball game between New York and Detroit which took place on Saturday and Sunday, August 15 and 16, for the benefit of the firemen’s pension fund. The new battalion chiefs with their new assignments are as follows: John J. Buckley, sixth battalion in East Thirteenth street; James Brown, thirty-sixth battalion in Greenpoint; Washington Howe, eighteenth battalion, which is in the Fordham section. The assignments were made by Assistant Chief Joseph B. Martin, at present acting chief of the department. In addition ten lieutenants were promoted to captains, eighteen firemen were advanced to the rank of lieutenant and transfers were made which affected twenty-two officers, three engineers, and thirty-six firemen.
