MEN HANDLING FIRE APPARATUS SHOULD RECEIVE CAREFUL TRAINING Importance of Proper Training—Schools for Operators of Pumpers Risk of Untrained Men Handling Fire Apparatus THE importance of establishing schools for training firemen to operate pumpers, of installing a library in the small fire department or of having a representative of the fire apparatus company instruct the men, is stressed in this article by the author, who has first hand experience in training operators of motor pumpers. A number of the suggestions can be profitably adopted by the chief of the small or volunteer fire department: I have been asked to relate some of my experiences in teaching men to operate fire pumps in the different fire departments throughout the country and I hope that the reader of this article will realize that it is written for the betterment of pump operators.
