Summary of Survey of Winston-Salem, N. C. A report was recently issued by the committee on fire prevention and engineering standards of the National Board of Fire Underwriters following a survey of conditions in Winston-Salem, N. C. The water supply in this city is maintained by an efficiently organized municipal water works. While they are slightly deficient in keeping their records, the system has been improved since the last report. When the improvements which are now under way will be completed, the system will be adequate for present needs. The pumping station has a good pumping capacity. The distribution system has been reinforced by the addition of new mains, and the installation of the new mains authorized will give reliable protection. At present the western half of the distribution system is weak. The hydrant spacing is too wide in the closely-built residential section. The city has a full paid, well…
