New Water Works System for Opelika, Ala. A proposal for the issuance of $225,000 in bonds will be subnvtted for the approval of the citizens of Opelika, Ala., the city council of that municipality has decided, for the purpose of providing an adequate water supply. The vote will be taken on October 14. It is proposed to develop property about five miles south of Opelika. The springs flow from the side of a small mountain, and even in this extreme and unprecedented drought, have maintained a steady daily flow of nearly two million gallons, which the section has experienced. It is estimated that by proper developing, the capacity of these springs may be increased 25 per cent. This movement by the Opelika city council followed a report made by Consulting Engineer Toten, of Birmingham, who has made a survey and study of local conditions and how best to meet them.…
