Discovered Existence of Secret Fire

Issue 14 and Volume 78.

Discovered Existence of Secret Fire A story which is credited to a fire chief, tells of a conversation which was held with a business man in which he casually mentioned to the chief that when he dressed in his bedroom he always stood on a certain spot, as it was warm. The chief thought this to be rather odd and believed an investigation worth while. When some of the boards were pried off in the room, the chief found halfway between the floor and the ceiling, a small flame issuing from a gas pipe. It was estimated that the flame was burning for at least two years, but due to sheer luck, the gas pressure was not increased nor any inflammable material brought in contact with the flame. The chief cited the story to prove that one can not be too suspicious when it conies to fires.
