The contests generally consist of hose races, both foot and motor, hook and ladder races, also both foot and motor, and contests using motor pumpers of various sizes and capacities. In Nassau and Suffolk Counties, firemen’s tournaments have been held for many years and this district is what might be termed the “hotbed” of firemen’s contests. The committees who have stood behind these games have given much time and thought in order that all of the contests might be brought into as near a practical standard as possible eliminating to a large extent those contests which would not be considered in regular fire service.
