Long Island Chiefs Discuss Problems The Fire Chiefs Council of Nassau County, with membership from Baldwin, Oceanside, Rockville Centre, East Rockaway. Lynbrook, Valley Stream and Malverne, discussed a means of imparting the fundamental principles of fire fighting to embryo volunteer firemen at a meeting held in Rockville Centre. The various methods now followed were debated. It was agreed that a period of probation with a qualifying examination at the end, seemed to be the most appropriate. For those already in the service and desiring more knowledge, group conferences were approved. The subject of protection to outside areas came up and a copy of a law passed at the last Legislative session governing the matter was read, and later discussed. Lists of chiefs and deputies, with telephone numbers, in each of the seven villages affiliated with the council, were distributed to the chiefs to be used in case of need for…
