New Chicago Acting Fire Commissioner

New Chicago Acting Fire Commissioner Mayor Cermak, of Chicago, on August 15, appointed Daniel J. Carmody, Deputy Chief Fire Marshal of the Fire Department, as Acting Fire Commissioner, displacing E. A. Maloney. Mr. Maloney is to return to his old position as Deputy Commissioner and Secretary of the Fire Department. While Commissioner Carmody, as acting chief, will be in full charge of the department at all times, he also will be on active duty in charge of fire fighting forces every other day. Fire Marshal Michael J. Corrigan will be in charge of the second of the two platoons. The arrangement saves $5,000 in salaries as two drivers will go back on the regular force. The last two men to sign will be released temporarily, and placed at the head of the eligible list. Acting Commissioner Carmody’ will receive no increase in salary.
