Fire Protection of Hotels

Issue 4 and Volume 89.

Fire Protection of Hotels Seven thousand hotels and about 2,200 Chiefs throughout the United States and Canada will receive a new booklet on “Fire Prevention and Protection as Applied to Hotels,” which is being distributed by the National Board of Fire Underwriters, 85 John Street, New York, N. Y. According to a survey that was made five years ago, there were 25,950 hotels in the United States with a total of 1,521,000 rooms. The publication presents information on maintenance, common hazards, construction and exit facilities, lighting, heating, fuel storage, power plants, kitchen, repair shops, laundries, exhibition of motion pictures, etc. It advocates the maintenance of a fire brigade in the hotel to aid in the orderly evacuation of the building in case of fire, to carry on fire fighting until the Fire Department arrives, and to assist the local Chief.
