Air Conditioning Discussed by Fairfield Chiefs The new problems confronting Fire Departments throughout the nation due to oil burners and air conditioning was the subject matter of a talk given by T. Alfred Fleming, National Board of Fire Underwriters, to the December meeting of the Fairfield County Fire Chiefs’ Emergency Flan on Wednesday evening, December 16, at Cos Cob, Conn., fire headquarters. Mr. Fleming discussed the Strand Theatre fire in New York City, which started in a rubbish pile on the ground outside the theatre, but which was sucked into the huge air conditioning equipment of the theatre and gave the New York department a few anxious moments. The Board of Underwriters have set up rules governing the installation of this equipment in an effort to reduce the chances of further fires of this kind.
