Fire Drill Proves Real To the nine-hundred children of a school in Battle Creek, Mich., it was just a fire drill. Out marched the children in orderly fashion in accordance with previous instructions. They lined up not far from the building, after they had emerged, to await the all-back signal. In the distance could be heard the sound of fire apparatus. The children were delighted. They thought that it was an added bit of realism. But the firemen knew otherwise. They entered with their chemical extinguishers and put out a fire caused by defective electrical insulation.
