Manufacturers’Announcements 45 Years of Progress The forty-fifth anniversary of the founding and incorporation of the Manhattan Rubber Manufacturing Company, now the Manhattan Rubber Manufacturing Division of Raybestos-Manhattan, Inc., Passaic, N. J., was recently observed. Two months after the company was formed in January 1, 1894, work was started in a small building 50 by 150 feet, with a staff of forty men. Col. Arthur F. Townsend served as President for twenty-six years, up to the merger in 1929. Since then he has been Chairman of the Board of Raybestos-Manhattan, Inc., and General Manager of the Manhattan Division. The company which started with a staff of forty now employs 3,000 persons in a plant that has 800,000 square feet of floor space. Auxiliary plants have been established at Whippany, N.
