G. W. Booth Honored George W. Booth. Chief Engineer of the National Board of Fire Underwriters. received an honorary degree of Doctor of Engineering from the Worcester Polytechnic Institute. Worcester. Massachusetts on Friday, June 13. The conferment came as the class of 1891 of which Mr. Booth was a member, was holding its 50th anniversary reunion. After receiving his Bachelor of Science Degree in civil engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in 1891, Mr. Booth served for two years as an instructor of civil engineering at the Institute. During the following two years he worked for the Massachusetts State Board of Health at Boston on investigations for a metropolitan water supply. He also spent several years with the Metropolitan Water Board of Massachusetts before he was appointed to the staff of the National Board of Fire Underwriters as a hydraulic engineer in 1904.
