Another Anesthesia Blast Kills Patient Explosion of anesthetic gas is believed to have killed Mrs. Anna Vugrinec, 59, on the operating table at Harrisburg Hospital, Harrishurg, Pa. October 22, according to the superintendent of the hospital. Two women anesthetists were slightly injured in the explosion hut kept on working, it is said. The surgeon and his assistant were uninjured. The accident occurred as the woman, mother of five children, was undergoing an abdominal operation. According to the superintendent, the operation was about completed at the time of the blast; however the patient was still under the anesthetic. “She apparently died of shock” he said. A combination gas is reported to have been the anesthetic used. “We don’t know the cause of the explosion but we believe it must have been from static, electricity” the superintendent reported.
