The ROUND TABLE EXTENSION LADDERS AND PRESENT DAY LADDER PRACTICES For Practical Discussion of Current Fire Department and Fire Management Problems OBSERVATIONS of FIRE ENGINEERING’S staff, together with inquiries from its readers on the question of the use of portable extension ladders, as related to actual or possible shortage in manpower on the fireground, prompted the Round Table Questions asked in the July issue, and listed on this page. The responses indicate some interesting trends and some very present complications in ladder selection and operation. Although practically without exception fire departments are continuing to carry 50-foot extension ladders on ladder trucks, there is an evident increase in the use of metal as compared with wood type ladders.
