Shortage in Firemen’s Funds Shortages of an estimated $50,000 were discovered in funds of the Spokane Fire Department’s credit union, it is reported. Captain Edward Obde, credit union president, said a state audit had been requested. He said several members of the department, including top officials, have invested their life’s savings in the union. Meanwhile a deputy coroner is investigating the sudden death of Capt. Robert Since who was secretary-treasurer of the credit union for more than 15 years. The captain and Fire Chief James Blarney were discusing the affairs of the credit union when the captain became violently ill. He died a short time later.
