On the Hot Seat Red Oak, Ia., fire fighters won a bout with fate on the evening of March 11th, last, when they successfully extinguished a fire in a Watson Brothers explosive truck loaded with 29,000 lbs. of TNT. Driver of the truck, Ralph Chambers, stopped his vehicle in the driveway of a farm at the east city limits of Red Oak, on Highway 34, when two right rear tires caught fire. He called for the fire department and battled the blaze with a hand extinguisher until firemen arrived. Chambers said he was en route from Joliet, I11., to Nebraska Ordnance Plant at Mead. He blamed the fire on friction developed after one tire of the dual wheel went flat. Fire Chief Frank Neil reported only scorch damage to the truck.
