Urge Separate Fire Departments in Quebec

Issue 10 and Volume 107.

Urge Separate Fire Departments in Quebec Delegates at the convention of the Provincial Federation of Quebec Fire Fighters in July strongly urged a “Fire Departments Act” for the Province of Quebec. Among the resolutions adopted by the delegates from all parts of the Province that have separate fire departments (i.e., operating independent of police) was one urging more effective help from the Provincial government in order to encourage cities to install separate fire departments. The practice of merging fire and police and of the members of these services performing joint fire fighting and law-and-order duties, continues to draw criticism in Quebec Province, from which the idea spread to the United States.
