Hawthorne Fire Rates Cut Fire insurance rates in the city of Hawthorne. Calif., have been cut an average of 21 per cent, following a survey by the Board of Fire Underwriters of the Pacific. The survey upped the city’s classification from seventh to fifth class. Fire Chief Joy West attributed the improved rating to a better water supply and enlarged fire department facilities.
