N. E. Chiefs Hold Seminar Some 75 New England fire chiefs gathered for a three-day seminar on fire fighting techniques at Boston University, Boston, Mass., in October. The group was addressed by experts from both the theoretical and practical divisions of the fire service, together with heads of municipal departments from all New England. At a banquet held during the course, Mayor Haynes of Boston lauded the New England fire service, and specifically praised the courage and ability of Boston’s 2,000 firemen. “The Boston Fire Department is one of the most expensive in North America,” he said, “but one of the best.” He said a number of old fire houses will be torn down and replaced by new ones, particularly in Dorchester and Mattapan.
