July Fire Losses Estimated fire losses in the United States and Canada during July amounted to $68,752,000, the National Board of Fire Underwriters has reported. According to Lewis A. Vincent, NBFU’s general manager, this $68,752,000 loss represents a decrease of 8 per cent from losses of $74,770,000 reported for June, 1956, and an increase of 11.6 per cent over losses of $61,614,000 reported for July, 1955. Losses for the first seven months of 1956 now total $586,155,000, an increase of 10.3 per cent over the first seven months of 1955, when they amounted to $531,371,000. These estimated losses include an allowance for uninsured and unreported losses.
