Texas City Settlement

Issue 2 and Volume 110.

Texas City Settlement Total settlement of damages to the Texas City Terminal Railway resulting from the disaster of 1947, which killed over 500 persons, has been agreed to by the insurance companies concerned. A payment of $3,250,000 will be made following the settlement which was signed by a United States district judge. The sum is more than double the award originally granted by a Federal jury in April 1955. The jury decided that the damages suffered by the railway company during the disaster of April 16 and 17, 1947, were more from an explosion than from a fire.
