Hayward Has Cure for Wayward Growing Pains THE CITY OF HAYWARD, CALIF., situated about 15 miles from Oakland, has experienced growing pains in recent years that have strained the fire protection facilities. The city officials have been striving to keep abreast of the community growth but the problem is difficult. The population of the city has tripled since 1950, standing today at 52,000, and continues to increase. In an attempt to keep pace, the city has embarked on an ambitious building program designed to provide adequate protection for the community and modern facilities for the fire department. One new fire station was completed in 1956 and two more are under construction.
