Hotel Loses Water Suit

Issue 6 and Volume 111.

Hotel Loses Water Suit The New Jersey Supreme Court recently ruled against a hotel owner attempting to collect damages from a water company for allegedly failing to provide adequate pressure to control a fire. In a 4-3 decision, the court agreed with a lower court that the suit of Sydney Grossman for $1,000,000 against the Lakewood Water Co. and its parent companies should be dismissed. On October 14, 1955, the Lakewood Hotel was destroyed by fire. Mr. Grossman contended the water company was negligent in discontinuing certain pumps and laying off employees, although he said the company had guaranteed good water pressure for fire fighting.
