World-Wide Fire News Air Force NCO Saves Three Japanese Children from Fire An Air Force technical sergeant saved the lives of three children and possibly many more persons when fire threatened a residence in Fussa, Japan, early last May. Sgt. Robert E. Evans, 40th Fighter-Interceptor Squadron, was walking along Ginza Street about 11 p.m. when he noticed a home on fire. A quick check assured him that no one was in the building, but that the flames were blowing towards the occupied house next door. He aroused its occupants but had difficulty making them understand their predicament. The racket he made in the effort woke up the neighbors, one of whom sent for the fire department.
