Seattle Port Body Takes Over Crash Unit

Issue 9 and Volume 112.

Seattle Port Body Takes Over Crash Unit The Seattle Port Commission recently took over direct operation of its SeattleTacoma International Airport crash-fire department. The Port owns the airport department’s trucks and other equipment and new $135,000 fire station. The action ended a contract the Port had with the McMicken Heights Fire District 23 to supply and train personnel for the 17-man airport department. The airport firemen, headed by Chief W. D. Robertson, were transferred from the District 23 payroll to that of the airport. No personnel changes are planned at this time. Parts of the large airport are within geographic boundaries of at least two fire districts other than District 23. Mutual aid agreements are held with all three.
