August Fire Losses Estimated fire losses in the United States during August amoimted to $74,660,000, the National Board of Fire Underwriters has reported. According to Lewis A. Vincent, NBFU’s general manager, this $74,660,000 loss represents a decrease of 1.1 per cent under losses of $75,491,000 reported for August 1958, and a decrease of 9.3 per cent under losses of $82,334,000 for July 1959. Losses for the first eight months of 1959 now total $717,860,000, a decrease of 2.7 per cent from the first eight months of 1958, when they amounted to $737,508,000. These estimated losses include an allowance for uninsured and unreported losses.
